Red Family
Each semester, children in the Red Family (2-3 year olds) are assigned to a "family" of five, with a maximum group size of 10. Each family group is supervised by an experienced teacher. With their family, they learn about themselves, develop friendships, and share meals and group activities.
Winter 2009 in the Red Family:
We are working on our Emergent Curriculum, Babies. Teacher Gwen noticed that several of the children were playing with the dolls. As a result, Teacher Gwen decided that the Red Family would do a small study on babies. The children were asked what babies eat. They replied by saying, “food, baby food, and yummies. “ Teacher Gwen bought some baby food, and let the children taste a sample. We were able to taste green beans with rice and fruit medley. Below is a picture of the baby food tasting.

Later during our study, Teacher Gwen asked the children what we need to wash babies. The children replied by saying, “Tub, wash, wash hands, wash hair, take off shoes, soap.” When the conversation was finished Teacher Gwen suggested that the Red Family wash the baby dolls. |

With baby washcloths, they washed the baby dolls in the warm water with baby body wash. |
When the baby dolls were clean the children dried the baby dolls off with bath towels. |
