Transportation

The Blue Family children have been talking about different types of vehicles for the last few weeks. We have done various activities on transportation and discussed many different types of transportation. We charted our thoughts and ideas and then used shapes to build our own vehicles. Then we were able to take a "Transportation Exploration" walk. We began our exploration by brainstorming what we thought we would see on our way to the trains. The children came up with a lot of great things to look for. As we walked, we kept our eyes peeled for large buildings, buses, people, cars, etc. We were able to stop and sit by the Chester Fritz sign and discussed what happens in that building. We continued on around the coulee where the children saw ducks swimming in the green water. We stopped on the bridge and looked over to see if we could find more ducks! The children decided that ducks could swim in that water, but people shouldn't!! When we got to the trains the children watched in awe as a new one came chugging down the tracks. They discussed why the train stopped to load and when it would start moving again. The children then had the opportunity to look at the various artwork that was outside the Museum. They really enjoyed the red piece that had a bike stuck in it! On the way back we took a class picture next to the fountain down by the coulee. When we got back to the center, we discussed what we saw on our exciting walk!!

Black Water

The Blue Family's quest for “black water” August 2007 to September 2007

We play daily in the sensory table that has water in it. Some of the children were fascinated by how the color changed each day and questioned how it got that way. Two of the children wanted to make it “black”. This idea caught on and all the children soon participated in creating “black water”.

The following pictures show some of the children as they experimented with colors to create the sought after “black water”. The experimentation continues because even after using black paint the water has only turned to a dark muddy brown.
