University Place
This apartment-style housing complex is the first of its kind on the UND Campus. It is not only is the first housing option offered as a transition to apartment living from residence hall living, but it also the first on-campus building in North Dakota to designed to meet LEED® Standards.
Below is a list of what went into making University place "green":
- First "rain garden" in a public or commercial space in the Greater Grand
Forks area.
- The storm filtration ponds were designed to use natural
means to retain runoff and filter contaminants utilizing a soil and plant system.
- UND took steps to recycle the bricks, demolished material and old street material from the
previous building site in the construction of University Place.
- An erosion control plan was used on the construction site to reduce any negative
impact on the water and air quality.
- Over 50% of existing trees were preserved.
- The ceiling tiles, steel columns and carpet all include recycled content.
