NEW FAQ...
Where can I park?
Traffic patterns and parking will change for move-in weekend only. These changes are to ease congestion to students and families as they move-in. There will be signs and parking staff directing traffic. New this year, we will have drop-off tent locations at the most congested hall parking areas. You will have the option to unload belongings at a staffed drop-off tent in close proximity to your building. See maps in pdf forms Brannon, Selke, Noren, McVey, Johnstone, Fulton, and Smith Halls OR Walsh, Bek, and Hancock Halls. Swanson and Conference Center will not have drop-off tents since there is less congestion near those halls.

When can I move in?
The residence halls open 9:00 am on Friday, August 21, 2009. When you arrive on campus, go directly to the hall to which you have been assigned. Please bring a photo ID and you will receive your room key at the time you check-in at your hall. You will meet personally with an RA in your hall, so you might encounter a slight wait. After you get your key, you can move in. The HOT team will be outside your hall, offering to help you move in. After you get settled into your room, you should check-in for Welcome Weekend activities in the Wilkerson Hall lobby. The Residence Hall Move-In Guide (pdf) is a great resource for students and families

Your meal plan begins with lunch on Friday, August 21. Wilkerson Dining Center is the only dining center open for lunch on Friday, Aug. 21, brunch on Saturday, August 22, and brunch on Sunday, August 23. How does the mail work?
There is daily postal mail pick-up and delivery at each service center (except Sundays and holidays). You and your roommate will share a mailbox and the box opens with your room key. In order to receive mail, you need to have it addressed as follows:

GRAND FORKS, ND 58202

Example:
JOE STUDENT
204B WEST HALL
GRAND FORKS, ND 58202
What if I want to change rooms?
UND Housing staff will do their best to get you the room you want, but it is never a guarantee. At this time, our room change request process has stopped for move-in. Room changes can once again be requested beginning Wednesday, Sept. 2 through Campus Connection, Self-Service, MYHOUSING.

Will there be anybody in the hall to answer my questions?

Your hall staff will be ready for your arrival and will help with each initial transition and throughout the course of the academic year. Each floor/wing has a Resident Assistant (RA). The RA is a student just like you, who is responsible for establishing a good community atmosphere in your area. The RA will be available to answer questions, facilitate programs, and confront inappropriate behavior when required. Other members of your hall staff include the Residence Life Coordinators (RLC) or Residence Hall Director (RHD). The RHD and RLC have the overall responsibility for supervising the RA's, advising hall council, and serving as a resource to you. The Assistant Director (AD), supervises the staff of Residence Hall Directors and Residence Life Coordinators, runs the service center, interprets policies and is a resource to you.

Hall Orientation Team (H.O.T.) members will be waiting for you at your residence hall on opening weekend. H.O.T. members will help you move in and are responsible for planning specific housing and dining welcome weekened activities. Look for more information in your hall when you get to campus. The Housing Office will also be opened extended hours Friday, August 21 - Monday, August 24; please stop by 525 Stanford Road if you need assistance.

Room Personalization

Room personalization is strongly encouraged. Rooms are furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, chair, window coverings and wastebasket for each resident, and each room has cable tv and campus network access. University owned furniture may not be removed from student rooms. Pictures and posters may be hung on the walls of your room. We recommend very small nails, t-pins and thumbtacks be used to hang items. Using these will eliminate the problem of unsightly wall damage. Please refrain from using stick-ons and other adhesive products as this can damage the walls. The UND campus is tobacco free, see Tobacco Free Policy for details.

Recent renovations in many halls have allowed UND Housing to update bathroom facilities. With the input of students, we have desigend a space which gives students privacy, yet still provides a social environment. You will find a private bathroom space with a toilet, shower, and sink all enclosed with a door you can shut and lock. Outside of your private space, you have several sinks and large mirrors. Suite style bathrooms are the other option you may have in your hall. This arrangement consists of two or three rooms connected by a common area containing a bathroom, shower and two sinks.
