- Housing Staff
The housing camp professional staff is made up of three full-time University employees who hold a masters degrees. These individuals assist student camp counselors with the camp program.
This camp counselor staff, comprised of sophomores, juniors, and seniors, have completed an extensive youth training program, and will be ready to greet your child and help make your son or daughter's visit an enjoyable experience. In addition, there is a minimum of four undergraduate staff members on duty each 24-hour period. A camp counselor resides on each floor and will live with the campers.
Both Housing and University Department staffs are here to assist your child with any questions or concerns they may have during his/her time away from home. We are confident your son or daughter will have a positive and fun-filled experience at the University of North Dakota's summer camp program.

- Common Questions and Answers
- Who will be my roommate?
Hockey Camp: The Hockey coaching staff will assign your student to a group and your student may choose his/her roommate at housing check-in based on who is assigned to that group. The grouping assignments are made in advance by the Hockey staff. Questions concerning hockey group assignments may be directed to the Hockey office at 701-777-3103. Other Camps: Roommate requests will be given priority. Assignments are made before check-in time for all grades.
- When is the best time for my student to call home?
Students in the checkpoint program (grades 9-12) will be able to call home between the hours of 7 pm - 11 pm. For students residing in the restricted supervision program (grades 3-8) student will need to contact one of the housing camp counselors in order to accesss a pay phone. Phone calls may be made between 7 pm - 10 pm. It is a good idea to purchase a pre-paid phone card in advance for your student to use while at camp. In addition, there are nightly programs for grades 3-8 that occur from 7 - 10 pm.
- Is there a refund policy?
Once your child checks into the camp program at the University of North Dakota, refunds are no longer distributed. Staff, resources and food purchases for camp have been committed once your child checks-in.
- What are the major camp rules?
- Absolutely no alcohol/illegal drugs or underage smoking are permitted at the University of North Dakota or in its residence halls. Possession of empty alcohol containers or the use of chemicals will result in being dismissed from camp.
- Tampering with fire and smoke detector equipment is a federal offense and will result in being dismissed from camp.
- Absolutely no one leaves the designated campus boundaries as explained at the first floor meeting (grades 9-12). Students in grades 3-8 may not leave the hall without a camp counselor, department staff, and/or a signed release form provided in advance by the parent or guardian, as this will result in being dismissed from camp.
- Additional rules such as fire alarms, window screens, accessing male and female camp halls, wake-ups, bed checks, checkpoint program/boundaries (grades 9-12), are all explained at the students first floor meeting.
- At no time will harassment or lack of respect toward the staff or other campers be tolerated as this may result in being dismissed from camp.
- If your student drives a vehicle to camp, your student will be asked to surrender all keys to the camp staff for the duration of the camp stay. Students who do not surrender all car keys to the camp staff will be dismissed from camp.
*These policies are for the protection of all campers. Please follow the policies set by the Housing Camp staff and Athletic Coaching staff. Poor conduct can lead to loss of camp privileges or dismissal from the University of North Dakota camp programs.
For information concerning the Federal Campus Crime Awareness Act, please contact the UND website or contact the UND Campus Police at 701-777-3491
- Release Forms
During Camp
Parent/Guardian:
You or a relative are welcome to come and visit your child while at camp. However, you will need to follow the procedures below:
Request a release form by contacting:
Housing Conference Services
525 Stanford Road Stop 9029
Grand Forks, ND 58202
Phone: 701-777-2497
Fax: 701-777-4298
Email: housing@mail.und.edu
At Check-Out
In order to provide the utmost level of security you will be asked to provide a government issued ID such as a drivers license and a signature at check-out for your child and/or those youths who you will be responsible to return home with at the end of camp.
Note: The Housing Department is not responsible for releases arranged by Athletics or other campus departments.
We encourage you to make arrangements at least one day in advance. If arrangements have not been made in advance with the Housing Office, a staff member will contact you at home for permission to release the child to the individual. If you cannot be reached, your child will not be able to leave campus or the camp program.
- Dining
At camp, your child will have a variety of food available during the week. Some items will be pizza, hamburger, salads, subs, spaghetti, along with an assortment of cereals, pancakes, French toast, and scrambled eggs, just to name a few.
If your child has special dietary needs or food allergies, please contact the Dining Services staff at 701-777-3823 and ask for the Dietitian. He will work with you and your request.
- Driving to Camp
If you are unable to drive your child to camp, there are alternative transportation options available to them. You can make arrangements with a taxi service to pick up your child at the bus stop, train station, or even the Grand Forks International Airport. Unfortunately the University of North Dakota Housing staff is unable to transport guests.
- Lost and Found
Please email housing@mail.und.edu if you have lost personal belongings in the residence halls. Include the name of camper, date of camp, name of camp, residence hall and room if known, and items you are missing. If you have lost items in athletic facilities, please contact the appropriate sport personnel above. Items found missing by staff are held for 30 days.
If your child is driving themselves
Once your son or daughter arrives on campus he/she will be asked to turn in all vehicle keys. The keys will be returned at check-out of camp. Because your child is 17 and under, the University assumes responsibility during their stay at camp and requires each youth to surrender their keys until the program ends.
