  1. Where do I go for my check-in appointment?
UND Apartment Community Center, located at the south side of the Housing Office building at 525 Stanford Road.  The check-in appointment takes about ½ hour, and after that, you will be able to move into your apartment.

  2. How do I find my status on the waiting list?
Apartment staff members at the Housing Office (701-777-4208) are able to answer inquires about waiting list status.

  3. How long is the waiting list:
In the traditional apartments, right now the waiting list is about 4-6 months for both a one bedroom apartment and a three bedroom apartment, and about 2-4 months for a two bedroom apartment.  Generally, the one and three bedroom apartments have the longest waiting list.  There are immediate 3 bedroom openings in Hamline Square.

  4. How do I give my notice to vacate?
All student leases (not including Hamline Square) require the resident to give a written notice to the Housing Office indicating the date they wish to move out of the apartment.  Per the student’s lease, the resident is responsible for 60 days of rent from the time the notice is received at the Housing Office.  Students may choose to move out of their apartment prior to their 60 day obligation with the understanding that they are responsible for the full amount.  A credit equal to the daily rental rate will be placed on the vacating residents account for any days that the vacancy is filled prior to the 60 day obligation. This notice can be found at this link, Notice to Vacate, on the back of the monthly paper newsletter “In the Neighborhood,” or at the Housing Office.

Hamline Square apartment residents have a one-year term lease.

  5. How do I pay rent?
Rent is due the first day of every month.  Rental charges will be billed to the resident’s account a few days prior to the start of each month. Students must regularly check their Campus Connection to track charges on their University Account.  Monthly statements will not be mailed.  Students can make payments through Campus Connection (see below) or directly at Student Account Services.  Non-students will receive a monthly statement outlining charges. Their payments must be made directly to Student Account Services, located in Twamley Hall.

  6. I made a payment for rent on-line. Why didn’t my payment take care of my rent?
When making a payment on-line, students do not get an option to direct what that payment goes towards.  The on-line option has a priority list that it goes by and Housing isn’t always the first priority for payment on a student account.  So when a student makes a payment, and IF that student has an outstanding amount owed on their account, a rent payment may be applied to the outstanding amount due before going towards your Housing bill.  To get the payment applied directly to a Housing bill, a student will need to call or visit Student Account Services located in Twamley Hall.

  7. Can I pre-pay my rent?
Are you tired of being worried about making your rent payments on time? You can use Housing Pre-Payment on Campus Connection to pay your rent on time every month. Any money put into the Housing Pre-Payment account will automatically pay any housing charges that are applied to that account. You may make on online deposit of estimated housing and rent charges for the entire term. Log on to Campus Connection: Go to Campus Finances>View Statements/Pay Online Now>Click the "Deposits" tab> Housing Pre-Payment.

Please contact Housing Office staff at 701-777-4251 to figure out how much money you will need to deposit into your account for the term.

  8. What do I do if I have a conflict with my neighbor?
A resident’s first approach should be to try and resolve the conflict with the neighbor between themselves.  This has been found to be the most effective way to resolve neighbor-to-neighbor issues.  At times it is necessary to seek out assistance from a Resident Manager (RM).  The RM will help both parties to discuss the concerns and mediate a resolution.  If concerns continue, further assistance should be sought from staff at the Housing Office.

  9. Who do I call with an apartment question if the Housing Office is closed?
The Housing Office is open to assist residents Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. except for University Holidays.  Residents may also contact the Apartment Community Center Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 9:00 pm and weekends 12:00 pm  – 8:00 pm (summer and holiday hours will vary.)  For assistance during non-business hours residents may contact the Resident Manager (RM) assigned to their area or call 701-777-2591 to request assistance from the RM on-call.

  10. Someone is parking in my assigned parking space. Who should I contact?
A resident’s first contact should be made to their assigned Resident Manger (RM). If the RM is not available, the resident should contact the Housing Office.  Staff will work to try and identify who the vehicle belongs to and ask them to move it to the proper location.  If the owner is not identified the staff will contact UND Traffic or Police to have the vehicle ticketed.  In certain situations the illegally parked vehicle may be relocated.

  11. What are the options for campus network (Internet) service?
Residents in the traditional UND apartments may connect to the campus network free of charge using dial-up service. UND phone service is required. If residents want a high-speed connection, they can sign up for DSL service. See #12 below.

Hamline Square residents, if interested in Internet service, should contact a local provider of internet service.

  12. How do I get DSL service in the traditional apartments?
First, call UND Telecommunications (701-777-3217) and request to have a phone hooked up in the apartment.  Residents will receive a new phone number at that time.  Once the phone is requested and the resident has a number, the resident should come to the Housing Office to fill out a DSL Contract and Code of Ethics & Policy.  An apartment staff member will submit the request to have the DSL connected when the contact is received. The residents will need to purchase a modem from the Wilkerson Convenience Store. Normal hours for the c-store are 3 - 11 pm. If modems are not purchased here, ResNet cannot guarantee that they will work. Connections take 3-5 business days to set up.

DSL filters are available at the Housing Office front desk. Filters are used to remove noise of the DSL from phone lines in the apartment. If a student uses a telephone in the apartment with DSL and does not have a filter, they will have static and noise on the line. If a student tries to use a DSL modem on a phone line that has a filter, they will not receive DSL on that line. Housing provides DSL filters that are splitters to help resolve those issues. Filters are provided for use, free of charge. Students are asked to return the filter when they checkout.

ResNet will provide assistance to students with DSL problems. The students are asked to bring their computer and DSL modems to the ResNet office in Wilkerson Hall for assistance. See ResNet for hours they are open.

  13. I lost my apartment key, can I get another key made?
In order to get a new key, UND Facilities personnel must change the lock on the door.  Housing staff will need to schedule a time for the resident to meet with someone from the UND Lockshop to change the lock and issue a new key(s).  There is a $40.00 charge for changing a lock that will be billed to a resident’s account.

  14. I would like to change apartments, what do I need to do?
You will need to submit a completed Apartment Transfer Request with a $25.00 non-refundable application fee. A $225.00 transfer fee must be paid in full when you return your confirmation card to accept your new apartment.

  15. Can you tell me about Faculty Housing?
Before an assignment can be made, applicants must have the written approval of their Dean or Vice President, as well as the approval of the Director of Residence Services. Thereafter, the Director of Residence Services will approve assignments on a first-come, first-served basis until all 40 units have been assigned.  Assignments are made by the Housing Office for one year only, beginning May 15, the following year. Extension requests are considered. All faculty housing is located in the UND Gallery Apartments.

  16. What are the terms of the Faculty Housing lease?
The faculty/staff lease is a term lease with a specified ending date of May 15.  Faculty/staff housing residents are given the opportunity to end their lease in December provided they make the request by November 1.  Basically, they are only able to break their leases at the conclusion of a semester.  A 60-day notice to vacate is not required for faculty/staff leases.

  17. Can apartment residents get a meal plan?
Yes, apartment residents are eligible to sign up for any plan that Dining Services offers. Students may choose from an unlimited access plan, or 19, 14, 10, 6 or 3 meals-per-week, or block meal plans meal plans. Dining centers are conveniently located across campus.

  18. What is the U Card?
The U Card is used as your campus ID, meal plan card, and library card. If you pre-register during the summer, you will receive your U Card at that time. You must have this card to eat at the dining centers. Information will be available at check-in for those students who do not have a U Card.

The card will give you access to various foods, goods, and service outlets throughout the campus when you activate the debit card (pre-paid credit card) portion (Debit Account). To activate your Debit Account, simply deposit a minimum of $25.00 at the U Card Office located in the lower level of the Memorial Union.

A U Card Debit Account is a convenient way to have money available for food, services, or doing laundry on campus. Check this website for more information: U Card Website. You or family members may deposit $25, $50, or $100 into the account. Students can use their U Card Account as cash at any of the on-campus Dining Service Centers, including Twamley Snack Bar, Wings Airport Cafe, Med School Snack Bar, Walsh, Wilkerson, Union convenience stores, and the University Bookstore. Many more locations are being added, check the calendar handbook or the website above for the most recent list.

  19. Can I get computer assistance?
Go to this website for more information: www.resnet.und.edu.

  20. How do I get something fixed in my apartment?
Residents who are experiencing some form of difficulty with their apartment should contact their Resident Manager (RM) for assistance.  The RM will work with the resident to identify the problem and submit a work request to UND Facilities.  The submitted work order indicates that the resident gives the necessary UND personnel permission to enter the apartment to remedy the situation whether the resident is home or not. UND staff is directed to leave written notice that they have entered the apartment to make the necessary repairs.  Instances where damage was due to a resident’s neglect will result in charges placed on the resident’s account.
